Amy Shiffman Hendel

Amy’s personal and professional passion has always centered around fostering the best in others. She was born in Santa Barbara and raised in the Santa Ynez Valley, and is part of the local culture. After graduating from the University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts in English, she worked as an instructional assistant and substitute teacher for Cold Spring School for several years, thoroughly enjoying helping children understand all subjects.

This prompted her to pursue a Masters of Education and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She enjoyed working for many years as a middle school teacher at Jonata Middle School in Buellton, teaching language arts, science, history, art, drama, and coaching the girls’ basketball teams. While Amy enjoyed influencing children through the classroom, her passion began to take her in a new direction.

Her years experiencing the challenges children and their families faced gave her a sense that she could have an even greater impact, and she decided it would be through the field of law. Amy saw the professions of teaching and practicing law had common foundations. The passion to help others, the challenge of considering different perspectives in solving problems, and creating fairness to each party are fundamental to both professions. With a drive for her new vision, Amy attended the Santa Barbara College of Law and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2017. She is pleased to offer her services to individuals and families to create the best legal outcomes with fairness to all concerned. Her ability to listen, analyze and explain, even in complex situations, will benefit each and every client.
